Adult Social-Relational Skills Training

Simply Social is working with Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) to provide teens and adults eligible for MRS services with evidence based social skills training. This training aids in improving social, interpersonal, and communication skills (which employers often refer to as "soft skills"), and will help prepare the individual for further independence and employment.  There is a volume of research stressing the need for basic social skills in workplace settings. Some of these skills include interacting with co-workers, accepting constructive feedback, requesting and providing assistance, respecting privacy of others, complaining, and interrupting meetings. Employers expect employees with and without disabilities to have the needed social skills when they start a job so supervisors can work on job specific skills (Agran, Hughes, Thoma, & Scott, 2016).

About the Program:

  • 8-14 week (customized time frame) social-relational skills program utilizing evidence based practice intervention methodology where concepts and skills are learned, modeled, and practiced.

  • Designed for motivated young adults in or out of high school who struggle with social communication including conversational skills, body language, inferencing, or reading intent of other people.

  • Participants learn important interpersonal skills that are foundational and critical to relating to others at school, work, and in the community and skills that can be used and generalized across settings.

  • Individuals may be experiencing challenges in the home, school, vocational, employment, or community settings with difficulty building social relationships with other people.

  • Opportunities to practice skills in sessions with therapists and others during group activities.

  • More targeted, one-on-one sessions are available on a case by case basis.

  • Training for parents, job and social coaches, and others will be considered as requested.
