Employment Skills-Group Training

The U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment (ODEP) indicates that employers are reporting the need for employees with soft (social) skills. The following skills were defined as the top soft skills employers seek in employees. These skills can be broken down and taught  as part of the Simply Social adult training. These skills include:

  1. Communication: knowing when and how to communicate;

  2. Enthusiasm and Attitude: having a positive attitude;

  3. Teamwork: being part of a team and working as a team;

  4. Networking: building informal relationships to advance on the job;

  5. Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: ability to use knowledge, facts, and data to solve problems, in a variety of settings;

  6. Professionalism: dressing, attendance, hygiene, timeliness, using cell phones and technology, interacting with supervisors and coworkers, and conduct in the workplace.

We use an evidence based approach to teaching needed skills while preparing for employment. This program is customized in length from 6-10 weeks (based on program need) with a format that includes direct instruction and teaching of the curriculum, video and live modeling, and behavior rehearsal (practicing) the skills learned. Coaches give immediate feedback. The class is scenario based meaning attendees practice in situations they may experience on the job.

Below are some of the topics covered:
